In a recent attempt to get healthier, I've tried going gluten-free for the obvious benefits. The shitty part is that meant no more beer (for now). I needed something to replace that Pavlov-like thirst that comes during hour two of yard work or an NFL kickoff on Sunday afternoon. These certainly can do just that. At 5% ABV they still pack a slight punch and with 100 calories you don't feel like you just drank a sandwich. There's a ton of flavor varieties including the above "Blueberry & Acai". If you're looking for a change of pace to a traditional beer, look no further.
II - Burn Boot Camp
Wow this one was tough but what a fun time. My wife and I have been exercising more during the (little) free time we have. I have been running and she has been attending "Burn Boot Camp". One day she mentioned that they have free co-ed classes every Saturday morning. I had no idea what to expect and was certainly anxious about attending (the whole point of trying something new). We walked in and checked our kids into the FREE daycare in the back filled with toys and cartoons. We did some light stretching until our instructor started giving out directions for the day. For the next 45 minutes we did all sorts of running, jumping, rolling, throwing, and pulling. The workout was EXCELLENT. I felt like I was using muscles I haven't felt since high school. The best part was the camaraderie in the room. My fellow "burners" ranged from what looked like professional athletes to first timers (myself). Every time we switched stations people were high-fiving. I got to partner with my wife which was awesome, what a fun date idea. I was sore for the next 3 days but was so glad I went and tried. I will certainly be back. Check out a free class or trial at a location near you.
I - COLD SHOWERS
I was watching an episode of SportCenter recently and a former professional football player named Tony Gonzalez was talking about the benefits of taking a brief, cold shower in the morning rather than a hot steamy 30 minute sauna. I did a little research and it turns out he's right. A few of the benefits include improving circulation, easing stress, increasing alertness, and even stimulating weight loss. Not to mention the obvious benefit of saving on your gas/oil bill. The only negative? It's cold as S***. That being said, it actually has worked wonders, I have continued to lose weight and feel more motivated in the morning. I am officially a cold shower guy and encourage anyone to step outside you comfort zone and give it a try.
